Technology in Careers

As the semester comes to an end students are busier than ever; trying to complete all their assignments, finish the tedious group projects, prepare for presentations and final exams AND find a job or internship for the upcoming summer. It’s crazy time at Grand Valley and stress is at an all time high.

When looking for a job or an internship I first went on LinkedIn to update my current profile and then went to to begin my search. I found lots of jobs I could apply to and that interested me, but what I did not realize was the amount of technology needed in these potential future careers. As an Advertising student I am proficient in Microsoft Office and I have experience with Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress, social media, and with movie editing software. Many of the jobs and internships in the Advertising field require these technological skills and experiences.

I saved five separate jobs, including their job title, the company it is for, their web-link, and their technological requirements. This will be nice to refer back to and apply to after I get my resume looked at and updated next week with the Career Center. Technology is everywhere in our world, including our careers.
